WVU Transfer Shea Hefner Joins Eagle Volleyball Program
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Shea Hefner, who had more than 1,500 kills, 1,200 digs and 300 aces in high school, is transferring from West Virginia to join the Morehead State volleyball program.

"I chose Morehead state for the great staff and culture they have developed in and out of the gym," she said. "I liked how the staff was interested in me as a person and care about my future plans academically. I love the family feel from the team and the campus. Also, the opportunity to build relationships on and off the court really drew me to the school."

Hefner, from Bridgeport, W.Va., red-shirted at WVU her first collegiate season. She is a 5-6 defensive specialist who also played with the Catz Volleyball Club for head coach Nancy Wheeler.

Hefner was a four-year starter and two-time team captain at Bridgeport High School for coaches Ali and Grant Burton. She earned Second-Team All-State as a freshman and sophomore and First-Team All-State as a junior. She also was a three-time First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-County award winner.

"We're incredibly happy to welcome Shea to Morehead State Volleyball.  It's evident upon talking with Shea that she has a true passion for the game, and is a hard worker in the gym," said head coach Dr. Jaime Gordon. "She will add to the tradition and strength of our ball control unit, which plays a critical role in our success.  Her time as an attacker in high school allows her to understand defense in a unique way, and she's spent the last year training in a high level gym.  I'm excited to officially announce her as an Eagle."

Hefner helped her high school team claim its first state volleyball championship in program history in 2018. She also led the Indians to another semifinal appearance at the state tournament her junior year, earning a spot on the all-tournament team for the second consecutive year.

Hefner was named the BB&T Player of the Week five times at Bridgeport and also earned the WVSSAC Academic Achievement Award as a sophomore.

Additionally, she was a member of the 2018 BHS track and field team that finished as runner-up at the state meet and has been a member of the USA Ohio Valley Regional Volleyball squad for 12 seasons.

The daughter of Chad and Jennifer Hefner, her sister Payton is a volleyball student-athlete at West Virginia Wesleyan.
