Jones Resigns as Head Softball Coach, Looking Forward to Family Time
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Samantha Jones, who has led the Morehead State softball team since 2019, has resigned her position to pursue other opportunities and to dedicate more family time.

A search for the next head softball coach will begin immediately.

"I am very proud of the culture that has been built here based on the investment of relationships. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach our student-athletes that they are more than just a student-athlete," said Jones. "Whether it's in their classes, their spiritual life, or other relationships, we have worked hard to help them grow. I am proud and really thankful for the opportunity to invest in them, lead them, and teach them as human beings."

Under Jones' command, the softball program annually ranked among the department's top teams in overall grade-point average and community/campus service.

"We are extremely appreciative of Samantha for leading our program for the past four seasons, and are respectful of her decision to dedicate more of her time to family," said Director of Athletics Jaime Gordon. "She helped create and maintain values in the program that will continue to have a positive impact on our students for years to come."

"I am so thankful for the support here at Morehead State to be a Division I head coach and mother to my children," Jones added. "With the stages of life they are going through, I really need to be there and dedicate all or a majority of my time to them.

"I will continue to advocate for this program, and my heart will always be with the Eagles," she said. "I am so appreciative for the experiences I was afforded here as a coach and as a person. I will take all of those experiences to heart as I transition into the next stages of life."
