MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Following a stellar showing in the Morehead State baseball team's 14-0 shutout of UT Martin Friday, junior
Grant Herron's performance earned him the OVC Pitcher of the Week award, the first of the 2022 season for the Eagles.
Herron started the contest and put together his finest start as an Eagle, throwing 6.2 innings and striking out a career-high 11 Skyhawk batters (including the first five batters he faced) in MSU's first shutout since April 24, 2021. Since joining the starting rotation, Herron has been effective on the mound for head coach
Mik Aoki, delivering three outings of seven K's or more and earning all three of his wins.
Herron ranks second on the team in ERA (3.30) and strikeouts (33) and is tied for first in wins with three in 2022, and has been a force on the mound in OVC play, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.48 ERA and 26 strikeouts against conference foes while only allowing 12 hits. His 11 K's vs. UT Martin stand as the highest total in a game by a Morehead State pitcher since teammate
John Bakke fanned 12 against Murray State in last year's OVC tournament.
Grant Herron is the first Morehead State pitcher to earn OVC Pitcher of the Week honors since
Jason Goe in 2019.
Morehead State is scheduled to host archrival Eastern Kentucky at Allen Field on Tuesday.
