Former Eagle Standout BJ Byrd Gets Training Camp Invite from Washington Commanders
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Following two of the most productive seasons in Morehead State football history, former Eagles wideout BJ Byrd has received a training camp invite from the Washington Commanders heading into the 2022 season.

"The opportunity means a lot to me because thousands of people don't get the chance, meaning I was one of the chosen ones out of thousands," Byrd said, "If you know me and where I come from it shows my true dedication to what I love to do because a lot of people either gave up on their dream or let someone else tell them they weren't good enough to do it, so when others went left, I stayed right."

By staying true to himself, Byrd now has the opportunity to play his way into the National Football League.

Despite only playing two seasons at MSU, Byrd won multiple awards in the Pioneer Football League. In both of his seasons at Morehead State, Byrd was a unanimous All-PFL First Team wide receiver, finishing with 90 receptions, 1,313 yards, and 13 touchdowns, shattering the previous single-season school records in those categories on his way to winning the PFL's Offensive Player of the Year award. Byrd earned AP and other multiple All-America honors, and also was a finalist for the FCS Walter Payton Award, an honor given to the most outstanding offensive player in the FCS. He set the single game record for touchdowns against Stetson, splitting the pylons four times.

A native of Richmond, California, Byrd also shined in the classroom, earning All-PFL Academic Honors in 2021.

Washington Commanders Training Camp is set to open between July 27-31.
