MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Following an outstanding sophomore campaign for the Morehead State baseball team,
Jackson Feltner has added another award to his trophy case, taking home Player of the Year in the Appalachian Summer League. By winning the award, Feltner joins a list of Major Leaguers who won the award when the league was affiliated with Major League Baseball.
Wander Franco (Tampa Bay Rays), Alex Kirilloff (Minnesota Twins), Brandon Drury (San Diego Padres), and Eddie Rosario (Atlanta Braves) are current Major Leaguers who have won Player of the Year in the Appy League. Jonny Gomes and Manny Ramirez won the award as well, and went on to win World Series with the Boston Red Sox.Â
"Winning Player of the Year for the Appy League is a great honor that I'm humbled to receive. I'd like to thank both my teammates and coaches for all they did in helping me succeed. None of what I did this summer is possible without them."
Feltner hit .347 over the summer, with 17 extra base hits including eight home runs. He drove in 38 runs and scored 44 times as well on his way to winning both Player of the Month in June and the Player of the Year award. In 2022, Feltner led the Morehead State baseball team to the third seed in the OVC Tournament after leading the team in home runs, hits, RBI, batting average, doubles, slugging percentage, and total bases.Â
Feltner and the Eagles will return to the Allen Field diamond later this year for fall ball before taking the field for the 2023 season.Â
