Football's Weekly Accolades Continue to Honor Past Standouts
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State football head coach Rob Tenyer started a trend several seasons ago by naming the program's weekly awards for past football standouts. That trend continues this fall as the Eagles honor five alums who made significant impacts while they played for the Blue and Gold.

The award namesakes are:

Offensive MVP – Jake Raymond
Raymond is the all-time career leader in pass receptions and yards at Morehead State. The slot receiver was nearly unstoppable during his career from 2012-16, compiling 272 catches for 2,907 yards. He owns the 5th (73), 6th (72), 7th (71) and 12th (56) best single-season reception seasons in program history. Raymond led the team in receiving three of his four seasons. He was also named Academic All-PFL in 2016 and was twice named PFL Offensive Player of the Week.

Defensive MVP – David Hyland
Between 2005-08, Hyland was one of the best defensive backs in FCS football. He set the Morehead State and PFL career record for interceptions with 21. Hyland's eight pickoffs in 2007 stood as the program single-season record until 2015. Hyland was voted as a three-time First-Team All-PFL pick (2006, 2007, 2008). He was also a Football Gazette All-American in 2006. Hyland went on to a long career in arena football with a multitude of teams, winning ArenaBowl XXVIII with the San Jose Sabercats where he was the Defensive Player of the Game.

Game Breaker – Matt Loy
Loy was a dynamic wide receiver and kick returner during his career. He was named First-Team All-PFL in 2003 when averaged a team and PFL-best 21.5 yards per kickoff return. He also compiled more than 1,000 career yards in the passing game, including a team-best 36 catches for 546 yards and three scores as a junior in 2002. Loy was a two-time Academic All-PFL selection as well.

Special Forces – Adam Jones
Jones was the Eagles' primary placekicker and kickoff man during his career from 2002-05. He connected on 22 field goals in his career and owned the MSU single-season kick scoring record (73 points) until it was surpassed in 2011. He also holds the program record for PATs made in a season when he booted 49 through in 2005.

Big Sack/Stick – Jerome Raymond
Raymond finished his career as one of the top pass rushers in program history. He was named First-Team All-PFL in 2011 when he compiled 15.5 tackles for loss, including 11.5 sacks. That was the second highest single-season sack total in program history, which he also matched the year before in 2010. Raymond registered 19.5 tackles for loss in 2010, third-best season in MSU history. He was a two-time PFL Defensive Player of the Week.

Big Block – Charles McGowan
McGowan was the starting center for the Eagles for three seasons, including helping the Eagles win two PFL South Division titles. He was named First-Team All-PFL South in 2002 and 2003. He was a two-time team captain and helped the Eagles lead the PFL in total offense when he initiated the snaps.
