BOX SCORE

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.– Despite its best efforts, the Morehead State soccer team could not topple regional rival Marshall Thursday, falling 2-0 in full time. The Eagles fell to 1-2-0 with the loss, dropping their second straight match.

Marshall held possession throughout most of the first half, pressuring Morehead State's defense, resulting in six first half corner kicks for the 'Herd. On the second of those corners, Courtney Corcoran just squeaked a header by Michelle Jerantowski to open the scoring in the 14th minute. Abby Hugh was credited with the assist. Jerantowski did her part keeping the Eagles in the match; however, stopping three shots on goal by the 'Herd.

Kate Larbes nearly evened the score in the 22nd minute, as her shot hit the crossbar and bounced out. Nicole Fiantaco and Abby VanHoeve had a chance later in the half but were unable to get a shot on goal. Marshall held the shots advantage 8-2 in the first half, and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Morehead State ramped up the pressure early in the second half, getting two shots at scoring from Hadley Cytron and Erin Fite, but Marshall Goalkeeper Alexis Wogelmuth saved them both. A second Marshall goal came in the 50th minute from Makai Leguines, giving the 'Herd a 2-0 advantage. MSU continued pressuring the Marshall defense, but could not find the back of the net.

Marshall held the advantage in total shots and shots on goal, with six shots on target. The 'Herd finished with seven to only one for the Eagles. Michelle Jerantowski finished with four saves.

Morehead State continues its road trip Sunday, as a match with Evansville awaits.
