MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State senior Bridget Bessler and sophomore Maycie Welborn earned two of the first four Ohio Valley Conference volleyball weekly awards. Bessler won her 11th career Setter of the Week, while Welborn's stellar play earned her the first Offensive Player of the Week of her career.

Bessler, the Hebron, Ky., native helped MSU open 2-0 by leading all league setters with 12.33 assists per set (74 total assists) in the wins over Queens and Stonehill. She also helped the Eagles' offense hit .319 on the weekend and became the seventh setter in program history to eclipse 3,000 career assists. Bessler added three aces as well.

Welborn, a right-side hitter from Heyworth, Ill., led the league in hitting percentage on the first weekend with a nearly unstoppable .472 clip. She had 23 kills, including one short of her career high with 14 terminations Friday against Queens. On Saturday she hit .600 against Stonehill and had seven kills. 

Morehead State continues its season this weekend at the Michigan Invitatational where the Eagles face Loyola (Chicago), Michigan and Toledo.
