MARTIN, Tenn. – The Morehead State soccer team bested their 2021 win total on Sunday, moving to 5-4-1 on the season thanks (in part) to two goals from
Hadley Cytron.
Morehead State jumped on top in the 11
th minute, as
Hadley Cytron scored on a two-on-one opportunity following a mistake from the Skyhawks.
Nicole Fiantaco was credited with the assist after her shot was saved, allowing Cytron to score on the rebound. Cytron scored again in the second half to give Morehead State a 3-0 lead, marking the first two-goal effort in her collegiate career.
Nicole Fiantaco was able to get a goal of her own later in the first half, as a beautiful back heel pass from
Sejla Podzic set up a cross from
Natalie Ledin that found Fiantaco in front, giving Morehead State a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Following Cytron's second goal in the 69
th minute, the Skyhawks were able to get a goal back quickly in the 70
th minute, but it proved to be too little too late as MSU took the victory 3-1. Following the win, Head Coach
Chris Fox expressed how proud he and assistant coach
Mark Sappington were of their squad's performance.
"A very good win today on the road against the reigning regular season champions. We challenged the girls to string two quality halves together. We were very good in the first half. We were comfortable in possession and threatening going forward. We had to weather an early storm in the second half but did a good job of limiting their chances while still creating our own. We're really proud of the girls and hope to keep growing each game."
OVC play continues at home for Morehead State this week, as Eastern Illinois comes to town Thursday before new OVC foe Little Rock visits MSU Soccer Field on Sunday.
