MOREHEAD, Ky. --Â Perennially a top-20 program nationally, Morehead State's rifle team will get its 2022-23 season started at home this weekend with Friday and Saturday matches against Georgia Southern at Button Rifle Range. Both days begin at 8 a.m. ET.
Head coach
Alan Joseph, the back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year, will field an 11-athlete roster this winter.
Graduate student
Bryce Ward returns as the leading scorer for the Eagles, averaging 1171.1 last year in overall, including 589.6 in Air Rifle. Senior
Grace Weber was not far behind in Air average at 588.8 and averaged 1160.6 in overall scoring.
Other key returners include senior
Elizabeth Plecity - who was the OVC Freshman of the Year her first season, juniors
Andrew Morris and
Sally Reeke, senior
Cailey Dahlquist and sophomore
Danielle Vigil.
Joseph added four newcomers who hope to make their mark in college shooting, including the program's first-ever transfer in
Cassidy Wilson. Originally from Spokane, Wash., she made the move further south after being at Alaska-Fairbanks. Freshmen team members are
Adrianna Beard,
Hayden Bell and
Holly Freeman.
The Eagles start the season ranked 16th in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association, while GSU is at No. 17.
