Gross Scores 23 points in Morehead State's 79-62 Loss to Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- 
Alex Gross collected 23 points, but the Morehead State men's basketball team fell to the hot-shooting Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 79-62 on the road Thursday.

The Eagles (10-8, 3-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Gross, who had 23 points and three blocks. Kalil Thomas tacked on 12 points and seven rebounds and Branden Maughmer chipped in as well with 10 points.

Morehead State utilized excellent ball movement in Thursday's game, piling up 18 assists on 24 made field goals. Drew Thelwell's seven assists led the distribution list for the Eagles and Jake Wolfe also added three assists of his own. But, Tech nailed 13 three-pointers on the night to pull away.

How It Happened
Morehead State started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run, culminating in a three from Thomas, to take an early lead with 16:57 left in the first half. The Eagles then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 36-35.

Tennessee Tech kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 57-49 advantage before Morehead State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Maughmer's three, to shrink the deficit to 57-54 with 8:59 to go in the contest. Tennessee Tech responded and outscored the Eagles the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-62. Morehead State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 27 points in the lane.
