Volleyball Falls to Southern Indiana in First Round of OVC Tournament

CHARLESTON, IL --The Morehead State volleyball team battled to the finish, but saw its season end on Monday after a loss to Southern Indiana.

The non-conference loss moved Morehead State to 18-13 on the season, finishing over .500 in the first season under head coach Kyrsten Becker-McBride. 

Irene Wogenstahl finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Eagles attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .292. Morehead State got 13 digs from Peighton Isley along with six blocks from Wogenstahl and five rejections from Hollan Everett to lead them defensively.

» Amelia Nott had a match-high two aces in the loss.
» Irene Wogenstahl had a match-high six blocks.
» Irene Wogenstahl had a team-high 10 kills for Morehead State.
» Morehead State got a team-high 13 digs from Peighton Isley.
» Morehead State attackers were helped by a team-high 16 assists from Brenna Bommer.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-18. Morehead State trailed by as many as 10 points as Southern Indiana grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up six times before the Screaming Eagles took control.

SET 2 | A 25-22 set-two loss put Morehead State behind 2-0 in the match. Southern Indiana grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up four times before the Screaming Eagles took over the lead.

SET 3 | Morehead State couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Eagles dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set 25-23.

The Eagles will play their beach schedule in the Spring of 2024 before returning to Johnson Arena next Fall.
