CLARKSVILLE, TN --The Morehead State men's basketball team went into the half tied with Austin Peay 27-27 but took control on defense in the second half to beat the Governors 61-50 on the road Wednesday as Jordan Lathon posted his first Eagle double-double with a game-best 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Eagles (5-3) had three players score in double figures. Riley Minix added 17 points and nine rebounds, and Kalil Thomas helped out with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals.

The Morehead State defense held Austin Peay shooters to only 38 percent from the field overall and just 29 percent in the final half. The Governors did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only four offensive rebounds and scored two second chance points while Morehead State pulled down 30 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 5-3 advantage, Morehead State went on a 5-0 run with 17:26 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Minix, to increase its lead to 10-3. Austin Peay then responded to tie things up at 27-27 heading into halftime. Morehead State got a boost from behind the arc in the period, hitting four shots to account for 12 of its 27 points.
After intermission, Morehead State grabbed a 42-40 lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Lathon's three, to grow its advantage to 48-40 with 10:19 to go in the contest. The Eagles kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 61-50 win.
Game Notes
» Morehead State hit 51 percent from the floor and has now shot 50 percent or better in four of the first eight games this season. It's the first time for that since the 2019-20 season.
» Morehead State outscored Austin Peay 34-23 in the second half after a halftime tie to pick up the victory.
» The Eagles held the Governors to only 38 percent shooting from the field.

» It was the fourth straight win in the series against Austin Peay, a former OVC rival, as MSU leads 60-56 in the long-standing series now.

» Out-rebounding the Govs by 20, MSU has now out-rebounded its last three opponents by an average margin of 20.3.
