Softball Shuts Out Alice Lloyd (Ky.) in Exhibition Doubleheader
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State softball was firing on all cylinders in their final tune up before opening their 2023 campaign, sweeping a doubleheader against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) Friday afternoon, 15-0 in game 1 and 20-0 in game 2.

The first game saw sophomore pitcher Madi Ogden fire a five inning no hitter, striking out 10 batters in the process, while Peyton Jordan flashed the bat, going 3-3 with a three-run blast in the third inning.

The second game featured a 10 run frame in the second inning, capped off by a two-run home run from Kirya Kingery. Ilencia Lightbody chipped in with three RBIs of her own, and freshman Jessie Begley tossed a complete game shutout for the win.

The Eagles will begin their 2023 campaign on February 18th as part of the UNC Greensboro Tournament, playing the hosts at noon and UNC Wilmington at 5:00 PM.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE:
-The Eagles showed patience at the plate, drawing three walks to load the bases before Emily Williams was hit by a pitch to open the scoring.

-Nazari Jackson and Taikibrea Campbell added RBI singles to go with an RBI walk from Taylor Rhea and a sacrifice fly from Madeline Gailor to give the Eagles a six run first inning.

-The Eagles continued their attack with another RBI single from Jackson before breaking the game open with a four run third inning, capped off by Jordan's home run.

-A Kaytlyn Cripps RBI triple and an RBI single from Williams in the fourth finished off the scoring for the Eagles before Ogden put the finishing touches on her no hitter
 
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO:
-The Eagles picked up right where they left off to open the second game, putting up four runs in the opening frame, featuring RBI doubles from both Kaytlyn Cripps and Ilencia Lightbody.

-The offensive explosion continued into the 2nd with a 10 run inning. Taylor Rhea stroked an RBI double, Trinity Spear added an RBI triple and Kirya Kingery drove a home run over the left field wall to make it 8-0.

-Taikibrea Campbell, Rhea and Spear added on to the lead with a trio of RBI singles, giving the Eagles a commanding 14-0 lead after two.

-Ilencia Lightbody kicked off scoring in the third with a 2 RBI double, scoring herself after an errant throw on her stolen base later in the inning. A Peyton Jordan RBI triple brought home the 20th and final run for the Eagles.
