LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team faltered for the first time in 2023 Tuesday, as two big innings from Kentucky proved too much to overcome in a 15-1 setback. The Eagles dropped to 8-1 on the young season.
Freshman Riley Bradshaw (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Morehead State (8-1). The left-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out one.
Jackson Feltner led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame with three walks pushing his batting average to .464Â and his on-base percentage to an even .600. Ryley Preece provided a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with three walks. Eli Kirkendoll also helped out with a double.Â
Matt Bettio, Riley Bradshaw, Hunter Porter, and Jarrett Miller were bright spots for the pitching staff, combining to throw four shutout innings in the loss. Bradshaw, Miller, and Porter have yet to allow a run this season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Eagles scored on a sacrifice fly from Chase Vinson, with Roman Kuntz narrowly avoiding a tag at home to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Kentucky would answer loudly in the bottom half, pushing across eight runs, and another six later on in the seventh.Â
