Power Hitting and Strong Pitching Lead to Doubleheader Split

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eagles split a doubleheader in a non-conference road matchup against East Tennessee State Tuesday, taking the first game 7-2, before falling in the second 6-3.

Reigning OVC Co-Player of the Week Emily Williams continued her hot hitting with her fifth home run of the season, alongside Taikibrea Campbell, who also left the yard for the first time this season. Erin Boyle went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the first game, while Peyton Jordan picked up four hits over the two games. Madeline Gailor also had a successful day at the dish, coming up with three hits, an RBI, and two runs scored in the doubleheader.

Madi Ogden picked up the win in the first game, tossing her fifth complete game of the season. The sophomore struck out six batters in her seven innings of work, and added another strikeout in a relief appearance in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
ETSU opened the scoring in the first after three consecutive hits made the game 1-0. The Eagles threatened to respond in the top of the second, but left two on base.

After Madi Ogden retired eight batters in a row, the Eagles struck back in the top of the fourth when Emily Williams tied the game with her fifth home run of the season. Erin Boyle then tripled and scored on a fielder's choice from Kaytlyn Cripps, and Taikibrea Campbell smacked a two-run blast to cap off the four run inning.

The Eagles added to their lead in the fifth after Peyton Jordan got aboard with a one out single and was batted home by an RBI single from Williams, making the score 5-1.

The Buccaneers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. A passed ball brought home Madeline Gailor, and Erin Boyle singled home Peyton Jordan, who singled earlier in the inning, to give the Eagles a 7-2 lead.

Ogden sat down ETSU in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the complete game victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
The Eagles got out to a fast start with a leadoff double from Trinity Spear. She was singled home by Madeline Gailor, who also came around to score on an RBI double from Peyton Jordan. Taylor Rhea hit an RBI groundout to score Jordan and give the Eagles the early 3-0 lead.

After Jessie Begley held ETSU without a hit through the first two innings, the Buccaneers broke through in the third, bringing three runs around to even the score.

The Eagles threatened in the fifth and sixth, but couldn't break the tie, leaving a pair of runners on in the fifth and the bases loaded in the sixth.

ETSU took advantage with three runs in the sixth, capped off by a two-run home run to take a 6-3 lead.

The Eagles again got runners on base in the seventh, but couldn't bring them around to score, falling 6-3.
