BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Morehead State men's basketball team could not keep up in a 77-59 loss to the UAB Blazers on the road Sunday in the NIT second round.
The Eagles (22-12) had three players score in double figures, led by Drew Thelwell, who had 13 points and seven rebounds. Alex Gross tacked on 11 points and Mark Freeman chipped in as well with 10 points.
The Eagles closed their OVC Championship season at 22-12.
How It Happened
Morehead State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-27 heading into halftime.
UAB kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 54-32 advantage before Morehead State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Freeman's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 54-39 with 13:45 to go in the contest. UAB responded and outscored the Eagles the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-59. Morehead State took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 32 points in the lane.
