MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Trailing by six runs four times and seven runs in the seventh inning, the Morehead State baseball team battled back to send the game to extras, but couldn't overcome Tennessee Tech on Saturday, falling 17-12 in 10 innings.
Jarrett Miller (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Morehead State (13-12, 3-1), after sending the game to extras.
In the batter's box, the Eagles were paced by Ryley Preece, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles, two walks and three RBI. Nick Gooden compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Junior Jackson Feltner also contributed for Morehead State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Morehead State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Preece.
The Golden Eagles expanded their lead to 10-4 before the Eagles offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Morehead State picked up a run on Gooden's leadoff home run off of junior Andrew Guardino, which brought the score to 10-5 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
Tennessee Tech built their lead to 12-5 before the Morehead State offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 12-6 in the seventh. The Eagles notched a run on Feltner's leadoff home run off Guardino.
Morehead State kept the Golden Eagles off the board before narrowing the gap further in the eighth. The Eagles scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of junior Colton Becker, bringing the score to 12-10 in favor of Tennessee Tech.
The Eagles kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard before fighting back to tie it up at 12 in the ninth. Morehead State plated two runs off of Tennessee Tech pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Preece. Tennessee Tech then scored five times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 17-12 win.
