MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the third consecutive season, women's golf has earned multiple Ohio Valley Conference accolades, including
Ruth Tonnessen, who has been tabbed OVC Freshman of the Year, making her the fifth Eagle to receive the honor and the first since 2015.
Tonnessen's stellar freshman campaign saw her lead the conference in scoring average, averaging rounds of 74.8, including shooting the lowest individual round of any OVC golfer, when she fired a 67 at the Spring Break Shootout, where she garnered medalist honors.
The Norwegian native picked up three top-5 finishes throughout the season, and for her efforts was named OVC Golfer of the Week four times this year, as well as a Golfer of the Month honor for March. In addition to earning Freshman of the Year, Tonnessen was also named to the All-OVC and All-Newcomer teams.
Tuva Marie Isebakke joins Tonnessen on the All-Newcomer and All-OVC teams, after collecting two top-25 finishes in her freshman campaign, and finishing in the top-10 for scoring average in the OVC this season.
Olivia Hensley earned All-OVC team honors, receiving her spot after three top-10 finishes and a Golfer of the Week nod back in October. Hensley also ranks in the top-5 in scoring average in the OVC.
Senior
MacKenzie Neal rounds out the Eagles on the All-OVC team, after a season that saw her win OVC Golfer of the Week for the third time in her career and a Golfer of the Month accolade for September. Neal's second round 68 at the Golfweek Challenge earlier this year was the lowest round of her collegiate career and second to only Tonnessen for the lowest round in the conference.
This marks only the second time in program history that four Eagles were named to the All-Conference team, with 2013 being the only other instance, and Neal and Hensley now become only the third and fourth Eagles in program history to earn All-OVC honors in three consecutive seasons, joining Morehead State standouts Marisa Kamelgarn and Anna Magnusson.
The quartet now continue their quest for an OVC Championship as they enter the second round of play in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
