MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eagles were shutout in their series finale with EIU, falling 4-0 in Saturday's game.
Madeline Gailor notched two of the six hits for the Eagles, with
Emily Williams and
Peyton Jordan both reaching base twice and
Kaytlyn Cripps collecting her third hit of the series.
In the circle,
Jessie Begley struck out three batters over her three innings of work, and
Lennon Spicer added three scoreless innings of relief, while allowing only two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles threatened right off the bat, with
Emily Williams drawing a walk,
Peyton Jordan being hit by a pitch, and
Madeline Gailor hitting a single to load the bases with two outs, but all three were left stranded to keep the score 0-0.
EIU responded by loading the bases themselves in the bottom half of the inning with only one out, but
Jessie Begley struck out a batter and induced a clutch groundout to escape the jam without damage.
The Panthers would rally with two outs in the second for the game's opening run, but Begley again limited the damage by stranding a runner on third.
The Eagles had a pair of base runners stranded in the top of the third, and EIU took advantage with an RBI groundout in the bottom half of the inning and a two out single in the fourth to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Madeline Gailor and
Taylor Rhea recorded hits in the sixth, but Gailor was thrown out at the plate and the Eagles couldn't threaten in the seventh, falling 4-0.
