MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eagles shined in the circle on Sunday, but were shutout in their series finale at SEMO, falling to the Redhawks 1-0.
Lennon Spicer,
Jessie Begley, and
Madi Ogden combined to allow only two hits and one unearned run in their six innings of work, walking only three batters in the process. The trio also combined to strand six runners throughout the game, keeping the Eagles within striking distance all afternoon.
The offense was able to muster five hits, including a double from
Kirya Kingery and a triple from
Trinity Spear, but also left six runners on base and were unable to bring a run home against strong pitching of SEMO.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Eagles were held scoreless in the top of the first, SEMO rallied without recording a hit to strike first in the bottom half of the inning, using an error, back-to-back walks, and a sacrifice fly to score the game's only run.
The Eagles recorded two out extra base hits in back-to-back innings, first the triple from Spear and then the double from Kingery, but on both occasions were unable to take advantage and continued to trail 1-0.
Morehead State saw their best chance to tie the game come in the sixth, thanks to back-to-back one out singles from
Peyton Jordan and
Emily Williams. The pair were moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from
Taylor Rhea, but a strikeout ended the rally, and the Eagles were set down in order in the seventh to end the game.
