MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State's comeback attempt was washed away in a rain shortened finale, falling short against Tennessee State, 3-2.
The Eagles collected seven hits over the five inning affair, with
Madi Ogden leading the charge, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Erin Boyle added an RBI of her own and
Peyton Jordan extended her hitting streak to six games.
Jesse Begley was credited with her fifth complete game of the year, despite only four innings of work, and allowed three runs across eight hits while stranding six runners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles got started quickly, thanks to a single from
Kirya Kingery in the top of the first. Kingery would then steal second and third, before coming home on an RBI single from Ogden to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers answered in the second, scratching across a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead, but Begley stranded a pair to limit the damage.
Tennessee State added another run in the third on a solo home run, and then loaded the bases with only one out, but the Eagles turned a clutch double play to keep the score at 3-1.
Peyton Jordan led off the fourth with a double and was brought around to score by an
Erin Boyle single. The Eagles loaded up the bases on an
Emily Williams single and a
Madeline Gailor walk with no outs, but couldn't come through with the game tying hit, keeping the score 3-2.
Both teams traded scoreless half innings before rain and lightning entered the area and forced the game to an early conclusion, giving the Tigers the 3-2 victory in five innings.
