Soccer Eagles Kick Off 2023 Season Hosting Regional Rival Marshall Thursday

MOREHEAD, Ky. – 
Following a pair of warm-up matches, Morehead State soccer is ready to kick off its 2023 campaign. The Eagles start it off hosting regional rival Marshall Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.

Both live streaming (ESPN+) & live stats are available. The promotion is Greek Night, along with a selection of food trucks available for fans to enjoy.
 
"We are excited for this early season test against local rival Marshall. Swanny's (Marshall head coach Michael Swan) sides are always very well organized and give us lots of problems to solve. We've had a very positive preseason, and I know the girls are excited for their first competitive game" said head coach Chris Fox.

NOTABLE

-Sixth-year midfielder Colleen Swift was named First-Team All-OVC in 2022, scoring a trio of goals. Swift's 10 career goals are the most of any active player. 

-Fifth-year forward Nicole Fiantaco was named Second-Team All-OVC after registering four goals and three assists in 2022.

-Morehead State's defense in 2022 was up to the task. The Eagles allowed the fewest goals in program history. A lot of success was attributed to Avery Redmon, who played a team-high 1,510 minutes.

-Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Gibbs burst onto the scene in her first collegiate season, setting the program record for goals against average (0.75). Gibbs was named a Player to Watch on the OVC preseason list.

-Morehead State's third-place finish in the OVC race last fall was its best showing since 2013. 

-The 2023 roster features 13 newcomers, including five international products. In all, MSU carries seven international athletes on its roster this fall.

-The Eagles posted three road victories in 2022,  the most since the 2015 campaign. 

-Morehead State ranked among the top 20 teams in the nation in keeping possession in 2022. coming in as the 11th best D1 team to keep the ball.

-Six players who logged 1,200+ minutes last season return for 2023, including Redmon and Swift, Kate Larbes, Madelyn Mozeleski, Anna Lohrer and Natalie Ledin.
