Eagles Drop Comfort Inn-Vitational Finale to Butler 3-1

MOREHEAD, KY --The Morehead State volleyball team lost Saturday as the Butler Bulldogs posted a 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 18-25, 20-25) win at home at Johnson Arena.

The non-conference loss moved Morehead State to 5-4 on the season.

The Eagles were led by a double-double from M.E. Hargan, who registered 11 kills and 11 digs on the day. Maycie Welborn also added 13 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Peighton Isley chipped in for with 25 digs to go with six blocks from Irene Wogenstahl.

Peighton Isley was the lone Eagle named to the Comfort Inn-Vitational All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-17. Morehead State trailed by as many as eight points as Butler grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was notted up three times before the Bulldogs took control.

SET 2 | Morehead State responded to pick up a 25-23 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Eagles took the lead for good at 24-23 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Eagles took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Butler took a 2-1 match lead after defeating the Eagles in the third set. The Eagles fell in a tough set 25-18. Morehead State trailed by as many as seven points as Butler grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Bulldogs took over the lead.

SET 4 | Morehead State then dropped the fourth set 25-20 to finish off the match. The Eagles trailed by as many as six points as Butler grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 and Morehead State was never able to recover in a set that was tied up three times before the Bulldogs took over the lead.


Morehead State is back in action next weekend, playing three matches in the Chattanooga Invitational.
