Tough Offensive Day Overshadows Solid Defense as Men's Basketball Falls at SIUE

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. --
The Morehead State men's basketball team kept SIUE to just 20 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-15 shooting performance, but the Eagles only hit a season-low 3-for-27 themselves as they fell 61-48 to the Cougars on the road Saturday.

The Eagles (13-5, 4-1 OVC) had two players score in double figures, led by Riley Minix, who put together high OVC best eighth double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Lathon tacked on 12 points and three steals and Drew Thelwell added four points, seven rebounds and five assists.

But the Eagles could not slow down SIUE's Demarco Minor who erupted for 24 points and 13 rebounds. MSU is now 4-4 all-time against the Cougars on their home floor.

The Cougars did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed 10 second chance points while Morehead State cleared 25 defensive rebounds. Overall, the teams tied on rebounds, 39-39,.

How It Happened

Morehead State trailed 28-20 at the half but cut the game to as two on several second-half occasion, including 45-43 with 7:05 left. But MSU did not get any closer. The Eagles trailed just 52-48 after Lathon's three-pointer with 4:09 left but SIUE proceeded to hit a triple of its own right after and went on to push its lead into the double digits.

» Morehead State played solid perimeter defense, holding SIUE to 20 percent from three point land on 15 attempts.
» The Eagles were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, recording seven blocks as a team.
» Morehead State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 14 offensive boards in the game.
