Men's Hoops' Squad Strives to Keep Success Going, Hosting TSU Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky. --  Morehead State's Men's Basketball squad will strive for the same success it's been having recently as Tennessee State visits Johnson Arena Saturday. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. ET following the women's contest.

Morehead State is on a six-game winning streak in the series with Tennessee State and has won four straight home games versus the Tigers and seven of the last nine at Johnson Arena. 

The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Radio Network (WIVY-96.3 FM) with Jason Blanton and Drew Barnette. It is also available on MSUEagles.com. The game will air live on ESPN+ as Jared Stacy and Dean Hardin provide the commentary.

NOTABLE
• In the Eagles' two conference games, MSU sports a +22.0 scoring margin, +20.0 rebound margin and has shot 48 percent as a unit. The Eagles have won seven consecutive OVC home games.

• Morehead State currently ranks in the top 50 in the NCAA in 12 different stats categories, while MSU has at least one player ranked among the top 50 in 12 stats categories too.

• The Eagles have recorded an assist on 58 percent of their total field goals this season (247 on 429 FGs).

• Morehead State is now 45-5 at home in the past four seasons, including a current 13-game home winning streak. The home win streak is the sixth best in the nation right now.

• Morehead State is 46-12 in OVC games over the past three seasons, winning 80 percent within the conference.

Riley Minix's 34-point outburst at Southeast Missouri was the most points scored by an Eagle individual since Drew Kelly's 40-point effort against South Dakota on Dec. 19, 2013. Minix has scored in double figures in 14 of the Eagles' 15 games, leads the team with 18.2 points per game (2nd in OVC), and has scored 20+ in four of the last seven contests.

Riley Minix recorded 19 rebounds against Tennessee Tech, second most by an individual in the OVC this season. His total was the highest rebound figure for an Eagle since Chad Posthumus grabbed 20 against Asbury (Ky.) on Dec. 30, 2013.

Riley Minix leads the conference in scoring (25.5) and rebounding (13.5) in OVC games only. His seven double-doubles, total, on the year leads the league in all games.

Drew Thelwell ranks first in the OVC and fifth nationally with 94 assists. In the past five games, Thelwell has 52 assists (10.4/game), including a school-record 19 against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) on Dec. 21. Thelwell will attempt to become just the fourth Eagle to lead the OVC in assists in the past 20 seasons, joining Nikola Stojakovic (2007-08), Brandon Shingles (2009-10) and Ta'Lon Cooper (2021-22).

Jordan Lathon has steadily upped his scoring production, now ranking eighth in the OVC at 15.1 per game. The Milwaukee transfer who sat out last season with a preseason injury, has upped his average 8.1 points just in the past nine games. During that span, he's scored 20+ six times. 

• MSU ranks second in the league in blocked shots with three players with at least 18 blocks and averaging more than a block per game. Riley Minix leads with 19, while fellow newcomers Eddie Ricks III (18) and Dieonte Miles (18) are right behind.

• Morehead State has the most experienced roster in the Ohio Valley Conference with eight seniors or graduate students. MSU's average roster age is 21.

• MSU is 25-3 in January games in the past four seasons.
