MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Freshman Tavia Burgess registered her first career top-five finish, and the Morehead State women's golf team settled in the middle of the pack to conclude the Butler Fall Invitational Tuesday.

MSU totaled rounds of 292-299-295--887 to finish seventh out of 17 teams competing at the 6,022-yard, par 70 Highland Country Club. Last fall, the Eagles won the event by one stroke over fellow 2024 competing team Illinois-Chicago.

Burgess, a newcomer from Mather, Calif., shook off a first-round 75 to score back-to-back par 70s and finish in fifth place individually.

Fellow Californian (Sacramento) and junior Amelia Rae Greenlee narrowly missed the top 10 as she scored a 12th place scorecard at 73-71-75--219. Classmate Tuva Marie Isebakke was in the top 25, finishing at 22nd with a 72-76-73.

"We know this course and had a good plan this week," said head coach Stephanie Barker. "We had moments of brilliance. However, we didn't quite execute at times, and the mistakes added up. We have things to build on for sure. I'm happy for both Tavia and Amelia on putting together another solid showing this week"

Other Eagles in the five-player lineup included sophomore Isabella Wiley (64th; 73-82-77--232) and freshman Ineke Brynard (95th; 80-86-79--245).

Senior Hanna Montgomery played as an individual and carded a 74-72-76--222 for 23rd place. That was her best finish since her sophomore year in 2022-23 when she came in 20th at the OVC Championship.

MSU is off now for two weeks before returning to action on Oct. 14-15 at the Lady Redwolves Classic at Arkansas State.
