MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State linebacker
Branden Stearman had a monster game against Presbyterian Saturday, and the effort earned him Pioneer League Defensive Player of the Week.
Stearman joins fellow defender
Noah Benza in earning a PFL weekly award this year.
From Louisville, Ky., the redshirt sophomore totaled a career-high 12 tackles (five solo tackles) and came up with a fumble recovery and an interception - his second career pickoff - in the Eagles' 14-7 Homecoming game win.
His fumble recovery came at the MSU nine-yard line when the Blue Hose had driven deep into the Eagles' red zone before coughing it up. He also stole an interception on a ball that couldn't be hauled in by the PC receiver with 2:30 remaining in the game at the MSU 26-yard line. It also stopped a potential game-tying opportunity for the visiting team.
Stearman is MSU's third leading tackler this fall with 36 stops through seven games.
