MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Men's Basketball found the offense tough to come by in its season opener at Louisville Monday night. The Cardinals forced the Eagles into just a 23 percent shooting night as the home team got past MSU 93-45.
In head coach
Jonathan Mattox's debut, MSU ran into a buzzsaw in U of L head coach Pat Kelsey's first game too in the Yum Center. The Eagles managed to shoot 38 percent in the final 20 minutes but could not overcome a 3-for-28 performance in the first half.
Newcomer Kenny White, Jr., led Morehead State with 14 points and also grabbed six rebounds. MSU did have a nice rebounding effort despite the setback as it pulled in 45 boards. Grad student center
Dieonte Miles registered a team-best 11 rebounds.
But, the Eagles committed 21 turnovers and hit only 3-of-21 three-pointers, while U of L buried 11 of 35 from deep range.
Kasean Pryor led the home team with an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double.
The Cardinals spurted out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed. U of L eventually led 27-8 and then held a 41-14 advantage at the half. The biggest lead was 50 late in the second half.
Morehead State will have its home opener on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET when another Louisville institution, Boyce College, visits Johnson Arena.
