GAME 2 | Southern Indiana 2, Morehead State 1

EVANSVILLE, IN --The Morehead State Eagles fell 2-1 in a nine-inning matchup to the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Saturday. It was MSU's first extra-inning game this season.

Freshman Cassiti Baroni (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Morehead State (7-10, 1-4) and took the loss. Sophomore Jessie Begley was a bright spot for the Eagles, starting the ballgame and throwing 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits, with four walks and one strikeout.

In the batter's box, the Eagles were led by junior Sammantha Cervantes, who went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Junior Darlene Montoya furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double (her seventh of the year). In addition, graduate student outfielder Becca Crawrford collected her first hit as an Eagle with a single to left field in the second inning.

"We fought hard in game two but a few miscues got away from us," coach Megan Griffith said. "It was great to see Bec's first hit, and Sam and Dar seem to be getting into a groove at the plate."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Eagles first its lone run on the board in the second inning after Cervantes' RBI single scored junior Ilencia Lightbody from second base. MSU had a few other scoring opportunities, but left two runners stranded in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings. In the ninth, Southern Indiana loaded the bases on a single to right field and then two bunt singles, before Lexi Fair's single to right field scored Mackenzie Bedrick to end the game and grab the 2-1 win.
