Softball Leads From Second Inning On In 3-2 Win Against Bowling Green

MOREHEAD, Ky. --The Morehead State Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 3-2 win against the Bowling Green Falcons on Thursday.in the team's home opener at the University Field.

Freshman Addie Stem (3-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Morehead State (5-6). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on one hit, allowing six walks and striking out four. Sophomore Jessie Begley also made an impact in the circle for the Eagles, throwing three shutout innings while allowing no hits to earn the save.

Freshman Kendra Lewis led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a double and a walk.

It was just Morehead State's second win in a series (7-2-1) that dates back to 2003. It also snapped both a five-game home skid and four contests overall.

"It was so wonderful to be able to get these games in with Bowling Green. Our team did a phenomenal job getting the field ready under such difficult conditions. It was an all-hands-on deck situation with administration helping us at every turn." coach Megan Griffith said. "It was a great team effort, but defense really stood out in game one. They did a great job holding the lead despite a few things not going our way. We had some great plays, and we made the routine plays look routine."

The Eagles put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Morehead State's offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard. Bowling Green put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Eagles still held on for the 3-2 win.
