D1 MBB ACADEMIC ALL AMERICANS

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State basketball standout Riley Minix's legendary status keeps being cemented with more honors and accolades. This week, he earned perhaps one of the nation's most prestigious awards as he was named Second-Team Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Communicators.

An Academic All-American at Southeastern (Fla.) before transferring to MSU for his graduate season in 2023-24, Minix is the only student-athlete on a mid-major program to be named Academic All-American for D1 men's basketball.

Minix's award is the 46h all-time Academic All-American honor since 1972 for Morehead State. He is just the second men's basketball athlete to ever earn AAA, joining last year's standout Alex Gross.

Minix was spectacular in leading the Eagles to an OVC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth this year. He led the OVC with 19 double-doubles and became the first Eagle in 20 seasons to average 20+ points for the season (20.9). He also averaged 9.7 rebounds with 19 double-digit rebounding games. Minix's 733 points ended as the third-best single-season effort in program history.

The 2023-24 OVC Player of the Year, Minix is a graduate student from Vero Beach, Fla. He has a 4.00 grade point average in graduate school in his major of sports management. He was also the 2022-23 Academic All-American Team Member of the Year for NAIA men's basketball.
