Morehead State shut out 2-0 by Lindenwood

GAME 2 | Lindenwood 2, Morehead State 0

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --The Morehead State Eagles were not able to notch a run against Lindenwood pitcher senior Amanda Weyh on Saturday and were shut out 2-0 by the Lions.

Freshman Cassiti Baroni (0-2) notched her first career start and took the loss in the circle for Morehead State (10-18, 4-11). The southpaw went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Eagles were paced by fifth-year outfielder Trinity Spear, who went 1-for-2, and senior infielder Peyton Jordan, who went 1-for-3. Junior Darlene Montoya and sophomore catcher Nazari Jackson each drew walks.

It was the fourth time this season MSU was shut out.

Lindenwood's 14 hits over the three games were the fewest the Eagles have allowed in an Ohio Valley Conference series this spring.

"We didn't hit as well as we did Day 1. We struggled to find holes with the balls we had in play," said MSU coach Megan Griffith. "Cassiti did a good job going the distance for us in Game 3. We didn't have any offensive support unfortunately."

HOW IT HAPPENED

LIndenwood got its first run in the opening inning. Mya Bethany walked, stole second and came home on a Weyh single. The Lions scored again after Bethany led off the third with a triple and then came home on a fielder's choice by Chloe Honchar to Cervantes at short.

Morehead State didn't manage to advance a runner past first base in the ballgame.
