MARION, Ill. --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Morehead State had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Eagles on base in a 9-4 loss at the hands of the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks on Thursday.
Junior Trevor Callahan (4-1) came out of the bullpen for Morehead State (34-23) and took the loss. Sophomore Hunter Porter was a bright spot for the Eagles, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with two walks and four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Senior Ryley Preece came across to score the lone run of the inning for Morehead State and get them on the board.
The Redhawks then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Eagles got back on the board in the fourth. Morehead State picked up a run on freshman Isaias Guzman's leadoff home run off of senior Haden Dow, which tightened the Redhawks lead to 4-2.
Morehead State held the Redhawks off the scoreboard before rallying to even it up at four in the fifth. The Eagles added two to their tally on senior Roman Kuntz's two-run homer to right. Southeast Missouri State then scored five times over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 9-4 win.
