MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State baseball shortstop
Colton Becker has signed a free agent deal with Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals' organization.
The 2024 First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference pick put together a fabulous career for the Eagles, culminating in a slash line of .346/.429/.614 in 2024 when he helped MSU to the championship games of the OVC Tournament and 37 wins. In 2023, he was part of the regular-season title-clinching team.
Becker was 29-of-31 on stolen bases in 2024, leading the conference. He finished with the program career record of 57 successful base swipes and also set the career mark in sacrifice hits with 21.Â
Becker also ranks high on the MSU career lists in a number of other stats columns, including second in doubles (62), second in triples (10), third in extra-base hits (101), sixth in games played (214 - he started all 214), sixth in at-bats (800), sixth in plate appearances (934), sixth in runs scored (178), sixth in total bases (410), seventh in RBI (159) and 10th in hits (241).
He wrapped up his Eagle time with a .301 career batting average and 29 home runs, including a career-best 14 this season.
Becker came to the program from Maineville, Ohio. He has performed admirably as well with the Trenton (N.J.) Thunder of the MLB Draft League.
