Morehead, Ky.-- Western Illinois shot 72% from the floor and poured in 31 points in the first quarter and never looked back as they rolled past Morehead State 92-63 Thursday in Johnson Arena.
Western Illinois (9-7, 3-4 OVC) shot over 56% from the floor and outrebounded Morehead State (7-10, 2-5 OVC) 45-29. The Leathernecks were led by sophomore Raegan McCowan who matched her season high with 35 points and recorded a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Morehead State was paced by
Harley Paynter with 19 points including three of seven from three-point range.
Alyssa Berry, making her first start at Morehead State, set a new career-high with 14 points. She also added four rebounds and four assists.Â
Western Illinois placed four players in double figures, Mia Nicastro posted 15 points to with 9 rebounds. Mallory McDermott and Addi Brownfield added 14 each.Â
Morehead State returns to play Saturday when they host Lindenwood in Johnson Arena. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
