Morehead, Ky. -- The Morehead State women's basketball team was outscored in the second quarter 19-9, fought back to gain a third-quarter lead, but fell to Little Rock 69-59 in the Jack Stephens Center Thursday afternoon in Little Rock, Ark.
Morehead State (6-9, 1-4 OVC) was led in scoring by freshman Chrishawn Coleman and redshirt junior Alyssa Berry with 11 points each. Berry also pulled down a career-high six rebounds. Freshman Maia Rosarion finished with eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Eagles opened the game scoring the first four points and never trailed in the opening period. MSU shot 7-13 (54%) from the floor while Little Rock shot just 4-15 from the field (27%) and the Eagles led 17-13 after the first ten minutes.
The second quarter was a reversal of the opener, with Little Rock going 7-16 (44%) from the floor, while Morehead State could only hit three of their 10 shots from the floor. Morehead State got a Katie Dike jumper in the lane at the 6:07 mark to go up 25-20 and couldn't make another shot save for a lone free throw. The Eagles also committed six turnovers in the period and went to the intermission trailing 32-26.
The Eagles stormed back in the third quarter going on a 10-point run capped by a Rosarion lay in with 4:14 to go to put MSU back on top 43-42. A Berry three-pointer at 2:15 tied the game at 47-47. The Trojans responded with a 7-0 run to end the quarter and went to the final period up 54-47.
Little Rock (6-8, 4-1 OVC) was led in scoring Jordan Holman with 20 points. Faith Lee added 17, Sug Williams added 15 for the Trojans.
Morehead State will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on Southeast Missouri Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2:30 ET.
