Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State extended their winning streak to eight matches with a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-12, 25-18) over Tennessee State Tuesday night in Johnson Arena.
Morehead State (14-5, 8-0 OVC) was paced by
M.E. Hargan and
Amelia Nott with 10 kills apiece. Hargan added a match-high 11 digs to post her 28
th career double-double. Nott paced a strong service game for Eagles with a season-high four aces.
MSU got off to a fast start in the match with a three-point run to begin the match. A pair of five-point runs put the Eagles out in front 17-6. The Eagles had six players record kills in the opening frame while posting a .321 hitting percentage.
The Eagles were again dominant in the second frame, slugging a.300 hitting percentage led by Nott's five kills and two blocks. MSU again used a couple of runs to gain separation: a six-point run put the Eagles ahead 12-4 and a 5-0 run put Morehead State up 21-10. MSU used a four-point run capped by
Courtney Fitzgerald's second ace of the match to put away the Tigers 25-12.
Morehead State ran off a 7-0 run to take an early 9-3 in the third set. Tennessee State (1-22, 0-10 OVC) fought back to pull to within 9-11. The Eagles got a four-point run to pull ahead 20-14 and a 3-0 run put MSU up 23-15 and put the match away.
Tennessee State was led by Sagaia Reilly with five kills. The Tigers managed just a .012 hitting efficiency for the match.
Morehead State returns to Ohio Valley Conference play Friday when they travel to Cape Girardeau to open a series at Southeast Missouri. First serve Friday is scheduled for 7;00 p.m. ET. Saturday's start is set for 3:00 p.m. ET.

- Morehead State smacked a season-high 12 service aces in the match. Hargan tied her season high with three aces, Fitzgerald and Tinsley Brown had two apiece and Logan Smith added another.
