MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Corey Kubbs has joined the Morehead State Baseball coaching staff as the Director of Pitching Development and Performance
He came to MSU after six seasons as an Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). Under his tutelage, Kubbs' pitching staffs produced four of the top eight single-season strikeout totals in program history.
In his six years with the program, he helped lead the Cougars to a record of 171-117, a .593 winning percentage. In 2022, the Cougars won the Crossroads League regular-season title and were just shy of qualifying for the NAIA World Series. He also coached 18 first- and second-team all conference selections, two All-Americans and five Gold Glove winners. He also recruited and developed the all-time saves leader in NAIA history, Cruz McFadden, who finished his career with 49 saves.
Prior to his time at Mount Vernon Nazarene, Kubbs spent the 2019 season at Ottawa (Kan.) as the Assistant Recruiting Coordinator and Pitching Coach. His staff posted a 4.95 ERA, the lowest in more than a decade at the time. His hurlers set the NAIA record for combined strikeouts in a game with 38 vs. Tabor College on April 1, 2019. The Braves' pitching staff was led by two second-team all-conference selections.
In 2018, Kubbs was the pitching coach at Montreat (N.C.), where his pitchers set a program record with 368 strikeouts and reduced the team ERA to a 20-year low. The Cav pitching staff was paced by two second-team all-conference selections. The Cavs recruited the No. 4 class in NAIA as rated by Perfect Game.
He spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as an Assistant at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, where he helped guide the team to a 95-32-2 record in that stretch, and an appearance in the NAIA World Series.
Kubbs is a 2015 graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene, where he contributed to five conference championships and five NAIA national tournament appearances.
