MSU Women to Host Marshall Sunday

Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State's women's basketball team continues its home stand Sunday when they host Marshall in Johnson Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network (flagship WIVY-96.3 FM) with Tom Lewis and Wes Holland on the call. It can also be seen on ESPN+ with Jared Stacy describing the action.

Morehead State is coming off a 73-60 loss to Eastern Kentucky Wednesday. Senior Laura To ali led the Eagles with her first double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 24 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Marie Sepp added 11 points and Landon Forbes chipped in 10.

Marshall rolls into Morehead on a three-game winning streak after downing IU Indy 81-71 last Sunday in Huntington. The Herd had four players finish in double figures led by Timaya Lewis-Eutsey with 18. Marshall forced IU Indy into 19 turnovers.

  • Morehead State ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference averaging nearly 8.7 made three-point shots per game. MSU's 27.8% accuracy ranks ninth in the conference. Morehead State's Violet McNece ranks third in the OVC averaging almost 2.2 made triples per game. McNece is shooting 30.2% (13-43) so far this season from three-point land.
  • Morehead State is right in the middle of the OVC averaging 66 points per game, 6th in the OVC. Western Illinois is on top of the OVC rankings putting up 84.6 points per game. Tennessee State is at the bottom of the statistical rankings at 59.2 points per game.
  • The Eagles have taken care of the ball better the last two outings: MSU turned it over a season-low 12 against Upstate and 15 Wednesday against Eastern Kentucky.
  • Similarly, the Eagles have bounced back at the free throw line: in the last two outings, MSU has shot 25-33 (76%) from the charity stripe. In Morehead State's two wins, they shot 38-47 (81%). In their four losses, they have gone 28-58 (48%) from the line.
  • Laura Toffali leads Morehead State averaging 15 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Toffali ranks T-6 (with Southern Indiana's Sophia Loden) in the OVC in scoring and 10th in the conference in rebounds per game.
  • Toffali leads Morehead State hitting 45.6% from the floor (31-68). That ranks 6th in the OVC. From three-point range, she has gone 7-21 (33%).
  • Toffali has recorded 19 steals so far this season which is the most in the OVC so far the season. Her 3.17 steals per game rate is second in the OVC. She has recorded five steals in each of the last two games.
  • Marie Sepp leads Morehead State with 32 assists, averaging 5.3 helpers per game. That rate ranks third in the OVC. She leads MSU with a 1.52 assist-to-turnover ratio, ranking 7th in the OVC.
  • Sepp is second on the club averaging 12.3 points per game. Sepp finished with seven points last week against USC-Upstate; the first game this season she didn't score in double figures. She bounced back against EKU Wednesday with 11.
  • McNece leads Morehead State (and ranks T-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference) with seven blocked shots so far this season.
  •  Morehead State assistant Madison Kellione was part of a team that won a D-III national championship at Transylvania in 2023 guided by current Marshall coach Juli Fulks. She was named a WBCA First-Team All-American that season. Last season, after a season at OVC member Tennessee Tech, she reunited with Fulks at Marshall. She started all 35 games with the Thundering Herd averaging 8.5 points per game. She poured in a season-high 20 points at Florida on December 8 last year.
