Morehead, Ky.-- The Morehead State volleyball team got a stout effort up front and earned a sweep over SIUE (25-23, 25-18, 25-11) Thursday night in Johnson Arena.
Morehead State (18-6, 12-1 OVC) totaled 14 total blocks, their largest total since the Eagles turned back 15 blocks in the season opener against St. John's.
Amelia Nott led the block party with seven blocks, her season high.
Bailey Brashear and
Hollan Everett added six for MSU.
The MSU attack was paced by
M.E. Hargan who notched a match-high 12 and finished with 12 digs for her 33
rd career double-double. Nott added 10 kills for the Eagles.
SIUE (12-14, 7-8 OVC) was led by Sophie Robinson with eight kills. The MSU defense held the Cougars to a .000 hitting percentage on the match.
In the first set, SIUE got an early lead and remained on top until a Morehead State three-point run tied it at 15-15. Another MSU 3-0 run gave the Eagles their first lead since 1-0. The set featured six ties and two lead changes. Everett's block solo clinched the set for MSU, who held SIUE to a .032 hitting percentage. The Eagles posted five blocks in the set to two for SIUE.
The Eagles took charge of the second set early, building a 13-6 lead. A 6-0 Cougar run cut the MSU lead to 14-12, but the visitors couldn't get any closer and Morehead State ran out the set 25-18. Hargan led the attack with three kills and two service aces in the frame.
Sarah Heath also added three terminations.
Morehead State charged out to a 8-0 run to begin the third set. Another five-point run gave the Eagles a 13-1 lead. Hargan and Heath provided the fireworks in the set with six and five kills, respectively, as the Eagles posted a .333 attack efficiency in the set.
Morehead State and SIUE will wrap up the series tomorrow in Johnson with first serve scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET. The match can be seen on ESPN+.
