Morehead, Ky. -- The Morehead State women's basketball team returns to action Friday when they travel to Louisville to square off with Bellarmine.
The Eagles opened their season Monday with a 75-59 loss at 24
th-ranked Kentucky. Morehead State was led by
Marie Sepp, who finished with 21 points, just missing her career high of 22 set last season at Missouri Southern. Sepp just missed a triple-double, leading the team with nine assists and eight rebounds.
Violet McNece finished with 15 points and
Laura Toffali tossed in 11.
Bellarmine opened its season with a 77-51 win over Spalding at home in Knights Hall. The Knights dominated from the jump, holding Spalding scoreless in a 21-0 first quarter. Triniti Ralston led the Knights with 13 points and 10 rebounds as Bellarmine had four players finish in double figures

- In their opener Monday, the Eagles shot 36% from the floor and 37% from three-point range. Sepp went 8-16 from the field and McNece was 5-8 from the floor including 4-7 from three-point range.
- Morehead State assisted on 15 of its 20 field goals Monday at Kentucky.
- The Eagles got off to hot start on Monday in Lexington, scoring the first seven points. Kentucky stormed back with a 16-0 run and led 25-17 at the quarter break. MSU scored the first nine points in the third quarter.
- Monday, the Eagles committed 16 turnovers. 10 of those were in the first half. Kentucky had a 13-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Morehead State cleaned up its ball control and tied the Wildcats 32-32 in the second half.
- Bellarmine is led by first-year head coach Monique Reid, a Louisville native who has spent the last two seasons as an assistant under Chancellor Dugan who retired last Spring. Reid had a prolific career at Louisville with 1,725 points and 802 rebounds in her career as a Cardinal. She was inducted in the University of Louisville Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.
- In their season opener Monday, the Knights shot 38% (26-69) from the field including 30% (7-23) from behind the three-point arc.
