MSU Women's Hoops Hits the Road to South Bend to Face Off with the #19 Irish

Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State's women's basketball team travels to South Bend, Indiana to take on the 19th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish Thursday. The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network (flagship WIVY-96.3 FM) with Tom Lewis and Wes Holland on the call. It can also be seen on ACCNx.
 
Morehead State is coming off a 61-54 win over the Rajin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana, Sunday night. Kate Dike led the Eagles with a career night of 35 points and 12 rebounds. Laura Toffali added 10 points for the Eagles.

Notre Dame opened ACC play Sunday with a 93-60 win at Florida State Sunday. The Irish placed five players in double figures, led by Cassandre Prosper with 21 points and Malay Cowles, who posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

NOTABLE
  • Morehead State leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 28.9 three-point attempts per game. That ranks 13th in the country in NCAA Division I. The Eagles are hitting 28.8 percent from beyond the arc, which is 9th in the OVC.
  • Morehead State is averaging 8.3 three-point shots made per game, which is second in the OVC. Violet McNece leads MSU averaging 2.25 treys per game (4th in OVC) and Anja Ekstrom with 2.11 three-pointers per game (5th in OVC).
  • Kate Dike was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Tuesday for her play last week. The grad student hailing from Kiev, Ukraine, posted career-highs 35 points and 12 rebounds in the Eagles' 61-54 win at Louisiana Sunday for her third career double-double. In Morehead State's last three outings, Dike has averaged 22.3 points per game.
  • Dike posted her first double-double of the season on November 22 against USC-Upstate with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She just missed one on November 30 when she posted 18 points and nine boards against Marshall.
  • Dike leads MSU averaging 13.9 points (13th in OVC) and 6.7 rebounds per game (10th in OVC).
  • Dike leads Morehead State hitting 41% (12-29) from three-point range. Last season she did not attempt a single trey.
  • Ekstrom broke out last Wednesday against Murray State, posting a career-high 23 points. The junior from Spanga, Sweden just missed one shot on the night, going five for six from three-point range and eight of nine from the floor. She also hit both of her free throw attempts.
  • Laura Toffali is second on the club averaging 13.2 points per game (T-16th in OVC) and 5.9 rebounds per game (14th in OVC).  The Italian ranks second in the OVC averaging 2.9 steals per game.
  • Toffali posted her first double-double of the season on November 26th against Eastern Kentucky, posting a career-high 24 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
  • Marie Sepp leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 6.7 assists per game. That ranks 12th in the country in Division I. The Eagles are 2nd in the OVC averaging 14.4 assists per game.
