BOX SCORE
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Junior forward
Khouri Carvey had a breakout game, recording his first career Morehead State double-double, but the Eagle men's basketball team dug itself too deep of a deficit to ultimately dig out of Thursday night at Lindenwood, falling 73-60 at Hyland Arena.
Carvey scored a career-high 20 points and corralled a game and career-best 14 rebounds, but Morehead State only scored 16 first-half points (shooting 22 percent in the opening 20 minutes) and could not trim its disadvantage any lower than 10 for the final 28 minutes of the night. The Eagles slipped to 14-12 and 9-6 in the OVC with their fourth straight loss. It's the first four-game unsuccessful streak since the 2019-20 season. Lindenwood scored its first program win over MSU and moved to 12-14 and 7-8 in the league.
"It was another case of way too many turnovers," said head coach
Jonathan Mattox. "We can't have 14 mistakes on the road and expect to win. We fought in the second half and did some things better, but we didn't get to hardly any 50-50 balls tonight. I didn't like our energy from the tip-off tonight. But I was glad to see Khouri play hard tonight. He was a bright spot."
The Eagles ended up outscoring the hosts 44-40 in the second half and out-rebounded LU for the game 35-32, but the 22 percent shooting woes in the first half sank the Eagles into a 33-16 halftime hole.
Morehead State managed to climb to within 10 (66-56) with 3:08 to play on Carvey's offensive rebound and tip-in, but Lindenwood quickly shut down any rally hopes, scoring the next four.Â
Reggie Bass put his team on his shoulders tonight, scoring 30 of the Lions' 73 points. He hit 15 free throws. Jadis Jones scored 16. Carvey was the lon double-figure scorer for MSU.
Morehead State will look to end its current losing skid on Saturday at Western Illinois. Game time is 2:30 p.m. ET.
