Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State (4-2) pounded out 12 hits and got multi-hit games from four players as the Eagles beat St. Bonaventure (4-3) 12-8 to clinch the series over the Bonnies in Lexington, S.C.
MSU catcher
Hunter Thomas blasted two home runs, drove in three runs and scored three runs. The senior from Russell Springs, Ky., has four home runs and 12 runs batted in through the first two weeks of the season.
Freshman second baseman
Aubrey Kearns went three for four on the day, hitting his first career home run in the second inning, and shortstop
Andy Cisneros got two hits and drove in three runs. Left fielder
Davis Germann banged two hits and drove in a run.
Junior
Ethan Davis (1-0) picked up win out of the bullpen. In two innings he gave up one earned run on one hit, walked one and struck out two SBU batters. Senior
Will Grimmett picked up the save (1) facing the last batter in the ninth.
Morehead State pitching gave up eight runs, all earned, on 12 hits. They walked five batters and recorded five strikeouts. SBU left nine runners on base.
The Bonnies' Jaxson Ross (0-1) took the loss allowing two earned runs in facing three batters in the fifth. St. Bonaventure pitching gave up 12 runs, 11 earned, on 12 hits. They walked nine Eagle batters and struck out six. Morehead State left 10 runners on base.
St. Bonaventure opened the top of the first inning with a leadoff single by center fielder Jayce Tharnish, who scored on a double steal with one out.
The Bonnies struck again in the top of the second, scoring three runs on three hits to go up 4-0. SBU scored single runs in the third and fifth innings and added two in the ninth.
After giving up a run in the top of the third, Morehead State got two runs on Thomas' third home run of the season, a drive over the left field fence to trim the lead to 5-3.
The Eagles threatened again in the fourth, shortstop
Andy Cisneros hit a no-out bases-loaded single up the middle to score Kearns to make it 5-4. Morehead State stranded three runners on base.
MSU plated four runs in the fifth and Thomas added another in the sixth with a blast over the left field wall to extend the lead to 8-6. The Eagles added three more in the seventh highlighted by third baseman Griffin Olsen's two-RBI single.
Morehead State travels to Lexington, Ky., Wednesday to play Kentucky. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
