Day 1 Recap & Day 2 Preview
MSU Track and Field had an outstanding two days at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships. The women's point total equaled the last 7 championships COMBINED! The men also scored in both years since officially resuming the indoor program last season.
LUCY SINGLETON WINS THE FIRST OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK TITLE SINCE 2003! She dominated the mile to win in 4:54.92, leading from wire-to-wire. She was pushed by Southern Indiana's Audrey Comastri for the first six laps, before pulling away over the last two to win by 5.96 seconds!
It's the first OVC Indoor Track title since MSU Hall of Famer Karen Lutes won twice (3,000m & 5,000m) in 2003. Singleton's title was the 10th in MSU women's indoor track and field history. Only Lutes ('00 & '03) and Amy Beatty ('99) have won two women's titles in the same indoor championships.
Singleton also finished 3rd in the 800m, the second-best finish (the first being her win!) since at least 2008. Her 800m time was an MSU indoor school record.
The team had 11 "personal records" or "season's bests" with just 17 athletes participating.
Both 4x400-meter relays were the fastest in 6 (women)/15 (men) years.
Cade Sullivan ran the third-fastest 60m dash in school history (and fastest in 23 years) and was just outside the top 5 in the 200m dash.
MSU's two entries in the women's 5K,
Abby Taylor and
Christiana Brittian, combined to cut 40.94 seconds off their "pr's".
And MSU was without two of its top runners who had to withdraw because of an illness they acquired a day before the meet.
