Morehead, Ky.-- Former Morehead State pitching standout Dalton Stambaugh has been named as an Assistant Coach to the Eagle Baseball coaching staff.
In 2019 as a redshirt junior, Stambaugh posted a 7-4 record with a 3.84 ERA. His 104 strikeouts total was the fifth-highest single-season total in program history. He was named to the All-OVC First Team and was drafted in the 30th round of the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
"I think with coaches, it's just like recruiting players in that you want to find good people, not just good baseball guys, and he number one checks that box. He's just a really good human being," said Morehead State Head Coach Chris Rose.
In his career at Morehead State, he posted a 17-12 record with a 5.61 ERA, 1.47 WHIP. He held opponents to a .286 batting average and piled up 238 strikeouts. Those 17 wins are tied for eighth-most in program history.
He played three seasons of Minor League baseball for both the Orioles and Cubs organizations. He posted a career 31-17 record with a 5.03 ERA. He averaged 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings with a 1.439 WHIP
"I think it was a big deal to bring somebody in who cares about this place and the tradition of the program and was a part of it," said Rose. "I think that just goes a long way."
"The guys are going to listen to him," added Rose. "He was a super-successful pitcher when he was here, pitched in pro ball and had a freak injury take that away. He has made an immediate positive impact on our guys. At the end of the day, creating outs is the job, and he is quickly educating our guys on how it is they need to create outs."
