CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --The Morehead State Eagles had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to home standing Austin Peay 9-1 despite the efforts of freshman Donato, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
MSU trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, when the host exploded for five runs, bringing the game to an early end.
It was the Governors' program-best 13th consecutive win, while the Eagles dropped their eighth straight.
Freshman Rylie Burney (0-8) started and took the loss in the circle for Morehead State (1-16).
In the batter's box, the Eagles were led by Jordan Donato, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Freshman Ilencia Lightbody put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. Freshman first baseman Nyla Doiron also added a hit.
"Despite some costly misplays on defense, we were right in the game with them until the final inning. We've demonstrated we can play with and beat these teams. We just need to put it all together in the same game," said MSU head coach Megan Griffith.
