Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State matched Little Rock hit for hit, but couldn't string enough together and fell to Little Rock 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Allen Field at Prefontaine Park.
Morehead State (10-22/ 1-10 OVC) rapped out 10 hits but could only score a run on catcher
Hunter Thomas' solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning. The homer was Thomas' 13
th of the season, which leads the OVC.
Little Rock (14-19/ 4-6 OVC) got three runs in the top of the first inning off MSU starter
Grant Herron (0-1), who took the loss, on five hits. Herron steadied and scattered three hits through the next four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.
The Eagles had multiple hits in three innings. MSU's first threat came in the sixth. Left fielder
Davis Germann led off with line single to left.
JJ Dutton shot a one-out single through the left side to advance Germann to second. First Baseman
Kadin Ray then hit a sharp grounder to short; Trojan shortstop threw to second to force Dutton. After a challenge from Little Rock, the umpires ruled that Dutton interfered at second base for an inning-ending double play.
After Thomas' home run to lead off the eighth, the Eagles got runners on first and second with no outs as Germann singled and
Alex Kean walked. The rally was killed with a strikeout and another inning-ending double play.
Little Rock starter Jack Cline (6-2) picked up the win. He scattered six hits in six innings pitched, striking out four MSU batters.
Gage Haley (1) came out of the bullpen for the nine-out save.
Game three of the series is Sunday at Allen Field at Prefontaine Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET. The game can be watched on ESPN+.

- JJ Dutton led the offense, going 3-4 with a double (7th of the season) running his hitting streak to 11 games. In the last 10 games Dutton has gone 14-38 (.368) at the plate.
- Caden Sheridan extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single in the third inning. In the last 10 games Sheridan has 12 hits in 39 at-bats (.308).
- Davis Germann went 2-4 at the plate, his ninth multiple-hit game of the season. He also extended his hit streak to five games.
- Eli Kirkendoll also went 2-4 at the plate, his third multiple-hit game of the season.
