MOREHEAD, Ky. — The love of the game is something that is ingrained in many college athletes. Volleyball athlete Logan Smith loves the game so much she is set to play a fifth year even after graduating and starting in the workforce. Smith has signed to play for Morehead State Indoor and Beach Volleyball following three successful years at Marian (Ind.) and her freshman year at former OVC school Jacksonville State.
Smith is a 5-8 setter from Garrett, Ind., and Garrett High School. Smith earns her fifth year due to a new waiver allowing junior college and NAIA athletes to pursue an additional year of competition.
"I chose to take a fifth year and pursue my MBA to continue growing both personally and professionally. With a background in marketing and communications, I wanted to deepen my business knowledge and sharpen my professional skills," Smith said. "At the same time, this opportunity gives me the chance to keep competing in both indoor and beach volleyball - something that's been a huge part of my life and has taught me valuable life skills and lessons. Morehead State was an easy choice; It's a place built on great people and best of all, a winning mindset."

"We're excited to welcome Logan Smith to the Eagle Volleyball family. Logan brings a wealth of experience and maturity, and she truly loves volleyball," she said. "Logan stepped down from a full-time job to pursue her final year of eligibility - that kind of passion is special."
A two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Smith was also an NAIA Tournament Champions of Character Recipient in 2024. In her three years at Marian, she compiled 1,374 assists in 77 matches and averaged 2.75 digs per set as well with 723 career digs. In 2024, Smith produced 16 double doubles and had 26 of the 31 matches with double digit assists. She handed out 575 helpers, averaging 5.42 assists per set. Marian finished 25-9 and was ranked 24
th nationally while appearing in the NAIA national tournament.
"This past season she set her team to a top 25 ranking, in a very competitive conference that includes the back-to-back NAIA national champions," said Becker McBride. "After playing a year at the Division I level, and three years of competitive NAIA volleyball, I'm excited to see what Logan will do in a Morehead State jersey!"
In 2023, she averaged 5.33 assists and had 288 digs, averaging 2.57 digs. Smith recorded 14 double doubles with 28 double digit assist totals. She led Marian to 20 wins and a berth in the NAIA Tournament.
In 2022, Smith compiled 4.38 assists per set and scooped 124 digs while helping the Knights to a 26-7 record. She began her career at Jacksonville in 2021, the season after the Gamecocks departed the OVC.
In high school, she became Garrett's career leader in assists (1,509), digs (1,292) and kills (1,328) to go along with 319 aces. Smith was also an AAU All-American in 2017 and was a two-time all-area and four-time all-conference selection. She played club for Fort Wayne Volleyball and Munciana.
Smith graduated from Marian with a bachelor's degree in marketing and communications and intends to pursue a Master's of Business Administration degree at Morehead State.
